What We Have Done and Achieved

SASA promotes the involvement of women and girls in science and technological activities. The following are notable examples: During the 2014 and 2019 SASA International Scientific Conferences held in Kampala and Toronto, respectively, seventy five percent (75%) of the participants in the SASA High School Science Fair competition were girls. In addition, SASA promotes involvement of women in science and technology through the student Research Excellence Fellowship Award (REFA) program. In this program SASA awards gold, silver and bronze prizes for the best three research and/or technological innovation presented at a conference.
SASA is a member of the International Science Council (ISC). Through its participation in ISC events and programs SASA is now participating in advancing science and the application of science to solve global human problems including addressing problems that affect vulnerable groups, viz; women, children, youth, refugees, environmentally sensitive development and climate change.
SASA has successfully held 8 conferences across Africa and beyond. SASA provided a sustained platform for discussion of the COVID-19 pandemic during the first 12 months of the pandemic – No organization in Africa and few across the world undertook such an endeavour. Under the auspices of SASA five books summarizing conference proceedings have been published. SASA has also awarded over 35 certificates and awards to high school, college and university students, and junior, mid level and senior faculty across Africa and globally.
